INFINITE GEOMETRY

Rana Begum works in abstract and sculptural ways with color and form as her starting point. She is interested in how artworks are transformed by how the light falls on them, or when the observer moves.
In the sculpture park, Begum has worked with materials that interact with this place. Laid, set, and stacked, they create geometric forms and abstract patterns on the ground, in the pond, and among the trees. No. 1066 Bricks, is a 300-meter-long path with bricks laid in geometric shapes. In the park and on the pond, she presents No. 1067 Tiles_S and No. 1068 Pipes_O, which are repetitive arrangements of roof tiles and terracotta pipes.
In the Art Gallery, Begum has also worked with repetitions and, with light brushstrokes, has applied watercolor to graph paper. We are left to interpret the abstract for ourselves, but for her, the repetitions are meditative and sharpen focus. Begum invites us to share the experience of painting in the Art Gallery, with space for mistakes and room for observing.
