The festival is dedicated to exploring the wondrous world of fungi and their net-like underground web of mycelium. It offers a conversation with the charismatic star biologist Merlin Sheldrake, author of the popular science bestseller Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures; creative workshops and a special menu in the café developed in collaboration with David Zilber.
Join a foraging workshop with Roland Rittman and Zenia Samlersen and enjoy a unique musical performance by composer and musician Cosmo Sheldrake, who incorporates recordings of natural sounds into his music. When the sun sets, Hupenhesis begins – a performance by this year's artist Carola Grahn.
Prepare for a day with nourishment for your mind and senses! And dress sensibly in layers as many activities take place outdoors.
The festival is funded by Region Skåne.
Tickets to the festival
The festival program is composed of different events, and some have limited capacity. You can pre-purchase tickets for the events here to ensure a spot. If tickets remain on the day of the festival, these will be released (for free) on a first come first serve basis to visitors, who inquire in person at the ticket desk of the shop.
Wanås Konst Club members join all activities for free and pre-book with booking code.
Food and drink
The café serves casual food, drinks, coffee and cake until 5:30 pm. A mushroom themed menu has been created for the occasion in collaboration with David Zilber. Gluten-free and vegetarian options.
Transport
Parking is included in your ticket. Round trip bus trip from Copenhagen and Malmö can be booked. If you book a bus and want to stay for Carola Grahn’s performance, we will organize taxi pooling to Hässleholm’s train station.

The park consisting of around 80 permanent works indoors and outdoors and this year’s exhibitions: Young-Jun Tak: Wish you a Lovely Sunday (video installation in the Hay Barn) and Carola Grahn: Trädgränsen (works in the sculpture park) are on view

The Magical World of Mushroom: drop-in creative workshop
Together with the artist Gurli Kruber we will explore mushrooms, plants, and our own creativity. Try making mushroom prints, inspired by the shapes and colors of nature and learn how to make pigments from mushrooms and plants.

Mycocosm
Experience the work Puff Ball Field, which consists of artificial mushrooms, by the artist Roxy Paine, who is also known for his "trees" in the sculpture park. Immerse yourself in a world of discovery and learn about the secret lives of mushrooms, their underground networks of mycelium, the roles as decomposers and much more.

Join the Swedish field biologist Roland Rittman – edible mushroom and wild herb collector – from Skåne or the Danish knowledge-sharing mushroom enthusiast Zenia Samlersen on an excursion that will give you new perspectives on fungi. Let the experts guide you through their personal take on the kingdom of mushrooms that live among the artworks within the "sculpture forest"

How does nature, the weather, and animal life in the forest impact the artworks and their lifespan? And how does nature influence our experience of the works in the outdoor collection? Join one of our knowledgeable guides on a different kind of art tour of the sculpture park.

Star biologist Merlin Sheldrake, author of the bestseller Entangled Life – How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds and Shape Our Futures opens up the wonderous world of fungi to us in conversation with David Zilber, Noma's former head of fermentation, chef, futurist, and bestselling cookbook author with The Noma Guide to Fermentation.

2.15–3.15 pm Cosmo Sheldrake
Open air concert Experience a unique musical performance by musician and composer Cosmo Sheldrake, who creates music with his own recordings from nature. The concert will follow a brief introductory conversation between Cosmo Sheldrake and Wanås Konst's artistic director Milena Høgsberg.

3.30–4.45 pm Finding Friends in Fungi: A Conversation between David Zilber and Merlin Sheldrake

6.00–7.00 pm Hupehensis – performance by Carola Grahn in collaboration with Svanholm Singers
Hupehensis, occuring in October each year, is the sacrificial night ceremony of the Anemone Order. At dusk, the order gathers in the forest behind Wanås castle at a sacrificial birch altar decorated with animal antlers. With fire, song and mystical rites, the order is said to strive to "become one's own flesh" and appease the powers of the forest.
What happens at Wanås when darkness falls and visitors have gone home? Join a large-scale, interactive performance by the artist Carola Grahn in collaboration with the male choir Svanholm Singers and Stephanie Hayes. A performance that touches topics such as power, religious ceremonies, and the search for a way to live in balance with nature.
