Art Projects 2024

Collection Highlights

In times of climate crisis, Wanås Konst works consciously to become a sustainable institution. It requires reflection on our role as a producer of new artworks and caretaker of a "permanent" collection in a forest that is also a natural reserve and a home to different species and plants. This year we highlight two artworks in the collection by Martin Puryear and Kimsooja that reflect the elements in different ways and shift from season to season in rhythm with its surroundings.

Kimsooja: A Laundry Field

Kimsooja's artwork A Laundry Field from 2020 has been acquired into the collection and this summer it can be experienced in the sculpture park again. Hundreds of white sheets, embroidered with monograms or decorated with lace swaying in the wind and remind us of the creation of a home, life and death.

Exhibition period June 26–Sept 29

Martin Puryear: Meditation in a Beech Wood

In June Martin Puryear's monumental, thatched sculpture Meditation in a Beech Wood was restored. Visitors were invited to follow the entire process with several events during the building process. On September 5 the project culminates with a seminar where the artist inaugurates the remade sculpture.

Seminar Martin Puryear

The artist is present to share reflections from a long and exciting career during a day filled with discussions about how time affects an artwork – physically by the elements and conceptually in relation to the art field and society at large.
