At Wan\u00e5s, William Forsythe has used an old henhouse to create a new artwork, or as he calls it \u201ca choreographic object.\u201d Choreography can be understood as a possible course of action; here, Forsythe does not choreograph a body but a house, creating movement where we expect complete stillness. If we step inside, the weight of the visitors\u2019 bodies set the house in motion. Because our bodies react to, and interpret, every signal from their surroundings, we respond physically to the choreographic object. Like so many of Forsythe\u2019s objects, we gain an experience of ourselves by being aware of movement\u2014and by being set in motion. The meaning of the choreographic object exists beyond what meets the eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
