Lone Larsen participated in an exhibition at Wan\u00e5s in 1996 that presented six Nordic artists who work with diabase. This black stone has long been an attractive material for artists, and has been excavated in the areas north of Wan\u00e5s since the late 1800s. Diabase can take on many different appearances, from grey and matte to black and shiny. Altar I <\/em>is a smooth bench made from a hard material. We experience the work when we look at it, sit on it, and touch it. The artwork can be seen as if it were a geological cross-section, with a fluid surface on a coarse foundation. Larsen has worked as a sculptor since the 1990s. Her forms are often bodily and organic, and she works in stone, bronze, plaster, and plastic. She experiments with the tension between heavy materials and light appearances. \u201cThe body and its movements have always fascinated me, and they will likely be the theme for my art the rest of my life,\u201d Larsen says of her work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
