Katarina L\u00f6fstr\u00f6m works with non-representational motifs in the form of video and sculptural installations. She sees her works as abstract paintings of light and movement. In the work Open Source (Cinemascope)<\/em> at Wan\u00e5s, two of her sources of inspiration meet\u2014nature and popular culture. CinemaScope<\/em> is a widescreen film format that was introduced in 1953 for showing 35mm film. The panorama concept has inspired the artwork\u2019s form, title, and dimensions. The metal structure that holds the screen is made of a metal truss, a construction found on stages and outdoor cinema. The sequins reflect the surrounding nature, and the movements of the wind dissolve the motif and create a continuous, transforming abstract film. In 2017, L\u00f6fstr\u00f6m created a public artwork using the same material on building fa\u00e7ades in Link\u00f6ping, providing an example of her long-standing interest in screens and projections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
