When Kathleen Schimert came to Wan\u00e5s, the moss-covered green rocks in the beech forest inspired her. She created the bronze sculptures, whose surface was lacquered by an automobile painting company in a color intended to resemble the same neon green tone of the beech forest when the first leaves burst from their buds in the spring. If not for the shimmering, almost neon-green color, the sculptures might be easy to miss. In her art Schimert works in a variety of different techniques, such as drawing, film, and sculpture. Inspiration for her art often comes from science fiction, and she describes her artworks as \u201ca space for illusion.\u201d The rocklike forms of the sculptures and the color borrowed from the surrounding foliage mean that their place in the park feels obvious, at the same time as the glossy hue can lead the thoughts to something beyond our world, as if they could have fallen here from outer space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
