About the exhibition

Every year Wanås Konst organizes the Wanås Art & Words festival. The festival was initiated in 2023 with the theme “Mycocosm” about trees, mushrooms and mycelium, and the strange network that connects them:

On October 21st, we will launch our new, annual art & literature festival, Art & Words Festival, dedicated to topics related to nature and the worlds of other organisms. Through art, music, performance, conversations and nature walks, the festival explores literature and research on nature, climate, technology, relationships to other species (“kinship”) that inspire today’s artists. The program offers art, food, music and activities both indoors and outdoors, with a focus on experiencing, reflecting and deepening our relationship with the planet’s diversity.

This year’s festival “Mycocosm” about trees, mushrooms and mycelium, and the wondrous network that connects them, is curated in collaboration with David Zilber – bookworm, chef, researcher and author of the best-selling cookbook The Noma Guide to Fermentation.

During the festival we explore the wondrous world of mushrooms and their underground network of mycelium. We will also take part in a conversation with star biologist Merlin Sheldrake, author of the bestseller Entangled Life: How fungi make our worlds, change our minds and shape our futures; creative workshops in Wanås Konst Studio and a special menu in the café developed together with David Zilber. Join a mushroom expedition with Roland Rittman & Zenia Samlersen and experience a unique musical performance by musician Cosmo Sheldrake, who creates music with his own recordings from nature. When darkness falls, Hupehensis begins, a performance by this year’s artist Carola Grahn.
