Chiachio & Giannone

About

Chiachio & Giannone are Leo Chiachio (born 1969, Buenos Aires) and Daniel Giannone (born 1964, Córdoba), an Argentine artist duo who are partners both in life and art. They live and have worked together in Buenos Aires since 2003. They have both been trained as painters but have been working with textiles and different techniques creating intricate and complex motives and designs that are equally appealing for their artistic quality and as for their social commentary. Many of their works are painstakingly hand-embroidered using different threads and materials, treating the textiles as they would have worked with a canvas. They often use recycled textile materials like bedlinens; cushion covers and handkerchiefs and almost always depict themselves in their works together with their dogs. Sometimes they use their own daily life as scenarios for their portraits, but often it is imaginary landscapes or borrowed settings from different cultures, religious iconography or art history that are the theme of their creations. The use of humor is also characteristic of their work which challenges traditional conceptions of family, masculinity, and identity. The duo is also known for their participatory projects that celebrate diversity and inclusion.

Chiachio & Giannone will have an exhibition in the Studio opening in May 2026 where they will present a selection of their work spanning the different styles and techniques that they have used over the past twenty years. In addition to this, the artists have been commissioned to produce a large-scale textile together with the visitors and different groups to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Wanås Konst in 2027. The participatory project launches in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition and includes, among other things, a drop-in workshop held within the exhibition, where visitors are invited to contribute to the artwork. The artists will be present for the first three weeks of May to run some of the workshops themselves. We will continue working with different groups during the whole of 2026 in close contact with the artists. Chiachio & Giannone will return to Wanås in April 2027 to finish the new textile which will then be shown as part of Wanås Anniversary program in 2027.
