Dialogue is central in Hannelie Coetzee’s art, in which she explores issues and research related to ecology and sustainability. She has worked with portraiture for more than 20 years, often from photographs: using photos as a point of departure, she breaks down portraits into their component pixels and recreates the images in various materials. At Wanås, these different interests meet in the large sculpture representing a wild boar. Coetzee was drawn to this extremely adaptable animal, now returned to Sweden after an absence of several centuries, for the way it arouses fear and sparks debate about how it can coexist with other species.
