Malin Holmberg participated in the project Another Way, 2009, a three-year collaboration between Wanås Konst and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. The students studied travel as an artistic action and undertook a journey from Stockholm to Wanås without using fossil fuels. Holmberg walked from Stockholm, and it took her 39 days. During her journey, she found inspiration in Mayan culture, which uses turquoise blue as a symbol for a “fifth direction.” Holmberg attempted to find colors for her own directions and movements along the route: “I walked through the colors, I walked under the colors, I walked towards, from, and around the colors.” During her journey, she made one painting every day, recording the color relationships she experienced. At Wanås, the participants presented artworks based on their journeys, and Holmberg made the yellow painting directly on the trees and the ground.
