Clay Pavers

It was important that the pattern had a sense of symmetry, continuity and flow. I enjoy working with repetition, creating a sense of infinite progression.
From an opening in the stone wall from the 1700s, Rana Begum’s artwork stretches 300 meters along the ground. She interacts with the architecture of the place—the gables of the buildings, the materials, and the colors. The measurements and colors of the clay pavers form the starting point for an abstract pattern of triangular shapes and organize the surfaces. Begum follows the existing pathways with their right angles and adds on to them. Her designs amplify the cross formation that marks the site where older paths used to meet at the same time as the rhythm is changed with the addition of triangles that create breaks in the geometry and offer a place to stop and observe the surroundings on the way out into the sculpture park.
